May 17, 2006, Runnemede, NJDynamite Entertainment today announced details concerning the first issue of the all-new, comic book event starring Xena, the Warrior Princess!   The comic book is developed through a licensing agreement with Universal Studios Consumer Products Group.

“We’ve really got a good thing going here with this creative team,” commented Dynamite Spokesperson J. Allen “John Layman has handed in scripts that we absolutely LOVE!  The pages from Fabiano for issue #1 are AMAZING!  And as if that were not enough, we’ve signed up Richard Isanove to color issue #1 up – FANTASTIC!”

But a strong creative team is only part of what Dynamite is bringing to the table for the debut of issue #1, Allen continued: “We decided to do something a little different with how we’re offering issue #1. So, we’re guaranteeing that issue #1 of Xena will ship in the month of July, or it will be FREE. That’s right, F-R-E-E!” continued Allen. “With this guarantee, fans can look for the first issue of this special Xena event in stores in July.”

(Dynamite suggests that inquiring direct market retailers consult their Customer Service Representatives for exact details of this promotion.)

With a strong marketing plan in place, it falls to writer John Layman to deliver the goods. So what does he have planned for his series? “It take place after the series, but I'm not going to tie it too deep into continuity, at least in the first story-arc. Of course, there will also be “easter eggs” for hardcore fans, but I want this to be initially as accessible as possible for the greatest amount of people.”

Issue #1 will be in stores in July -- Don’t Miss It!

Retailer Anticipation is already building for Xena’s return, as well as the special “on time” promotion!

"Xena is high-concept action adventure with both a sense of humor AND a sense of wonder--and that's just the sort of book that comics need more of!  And sure, Dynamite has had some late books in the past, but any publisher who's willing to back a book with an 'on time or free' guarantee has obviously put those problems behind him. In an art form plagued by late books, this sort of guarantee raises the bar for everyone else!"
-- Cliff Biggers, Dr. No's Comics

XENA is back! Get ready for the rabid Xena fans to come rushing in for her return to comics! The creative team on this book is perfect for the genre and will capture the hearts of readers both new and old. D.E. is on fire with officially licensed comics based on already popular hit television properties and Stormwatch Comics is glad to be there to deliver them to the fans.”

About Xena

Xena of Amphipolis is a fictional character who first appeared on the Hercules: The Legendary Journeys television series (in the episode "The Warrior Princess"), at which point she was presented as a seductive but treacherous warlord. Shortly afterwards, she became the main character of a spin-off series Xena: Warrior Princess (Xena was one of the first female leads in an action series for many years, hugely influencing subsequent fantasy series from Buffy to Alias). In this series the character sets out to redeem her murderous past by fighting against tyranny and saving the lives of innocents. Many of her adventures prior to the televised stories were subsequently revealed in flashback episodes. Xena was played by Lucy Lawless.
