TV's Favorite Amazon Warrior to Wed by Joal Ryan October 8, 1997, 2:40 p.m. PT Even a battle-savvy warrior princess needs a little love. Lucy Lawless, the sword-wielding, take-no-prisoners star of Xena: Warrior Princess, is engaged to wed her boss, series executive producer Rob Tapert, it has been announced. The happy couple dished about their soon-to-be married status Tuesday on Entertainment Tonight. The two have long been romantically linked. No other details regarding the planned nuptials were disclosed. The strapping 29-year-old actress--who once told a magazine, "Women can be as badass as any man..."--is once divorced. Her marriage to New Zealand high-school sweetheart Garth Lawless ended in 1995--about the same time Xena began boot-kicking its way past Baywatch as one of syndicated TV's most popular shows. Lawless' first marriage produced one daughter, Daisy. Tapert also serves as executive producer of Xena's companion show, Hercules: The Legendary Journeys. It was on that show in 1994 that the onetime opera hopeful made her American-TV debut. Lawless did two guest shots on Hercules that year. Later, when producers were looking for an actress to play nomadic amazon warrior Xena in a three-episode storyline, Lawless got the call--after the woman originally cast fell ill. The Xena character got her own series in 1995, and the rest is, as they say, Greek history. Lawless has parlayed her Xena fame into other show biz doings: She's scheduled to continue her limited Broadway run as Rizzo in Grease! through October 19. Copyright © 1997 E! Online.
