".......A thousand angels dance around you
I am complete now that Ive found you......."
I was startled when I turned around to see a smiling blond. I was sitting at my desk, piled high with my so called notes. I reached over and turned down my stereo. I had previously been singing the lyrics. "Hi." I smiled sheepishly as I stood. She looked up at me, as if I were a giant.
"I..uhhhh knocked, but...." she chucked her thumb towards the door. "I guess you didnt hear me." I noticed that she had a duffel bag over one shoulder.
"Sorry about that. Helps me study." She nods.
"Savage Garden. Right?"
"Uhh yeah. You like them?"
"Yeah...Im Teagen OBrien." She extended her hand. She was nervous. I could tell. Maybe it was because it was our first meeting. "They told me this would be my room."
"Oh okay." I walked over to the extra bed and started removing my jackets and extra clothing that was thrown over it. "I havent had a roommate since I transferred here."
"FSU." I whispered. "Here ya go. That dresser is empty if you wanna use it." She nodded. Teagen walked timidly over to the bed. "Are you okay?"
"Fine." she said immediately. "Im just a little scared. First time away from home."
"Oh. Well, hope I can help." I looked outside the now open door and saw two suitcases. I walked out, picked them up, and sat them down inside, closing the door. "These are yours right?" I smiled.
"Yes. Thank you."
"Where the hell are my manners? Im Sam Munro." I extended my hand. She looked at it and tentatively reached out. Her grip was warm and soft. I enjoyed it while it lasted. She chose not to reply to my introduction. "Whats your major?" I asked causally.
"Journalism. I like to write." She began to unpack the duffel bag, emptying its contents into the dresser.
"You write? Thats cool." Once again, I just received a nod. So much for small talk. There was something about this girl that called to me. Maybe it was just wishful thinking. I could never have someone this sweet. I attract the smartasses and the sluts. "Have you eaten yet? The food at the student center isnt that bad."
"My stomachs churning. I dont think I could keep anything down."
"I have a candy stash." I reached into my desk and pulled out three candy bars. "Youre welcome to it." I set them on her dresser.
After she unpacked, conversation was still very limited. I am not one to talk myself, but Im used to someone talking. We said little to each other. I had to leave for the one class I had today. When I returned, she was a little more talkative, but I feel that she doesnt like me very much. I have no idea whether its because we just met or if its something else. She had changed clothes while I was gone. Teagen is now wearing a tank top and matching shorts. She was watching the TV when I returned. "There was a show on I wanted to watch, I hope you dont mind."
"No, of course not. Watch whatever you want." I dropped my bag and flopped down on the bed with a sigh."
"Class I hate." I smile.
"A girl named Tonya came by. Told her you werent here."
"Oh yeah?" I look over and notice her causal dress. I cant stop the smile on my lips. "Ill let you in on a secret..." I leaned over for emphasis. "Im never here when Tonya comes by."
"Okay, gotcha....Who is she?"
"Just someone that bugs the hell outta me."
Teagen and I became pretty good friends, as roommates go. Over the course of a week, she began to open up to me a little. There was still something about me she didnt like. Sherri thinks its just my imagination, but I feel it. When she stands next to me, it seems like she is afraid of me. I know Im tall, but Im harmless, as long as you dont cross me. She has nothing to worry about.
I did learn that her parents dont live too far from campus. It was after that meeting, I got an unexpected glimpse into her family life. She came back to our room, sad. She was crying on her bed when I found her. "You okay?" She rolled over and I saw that tears were streaming down her face. I placed a comforting hand on her shoulder, only to have her flinch away. "Whats wrong?" She reached up and rubbed the shoulder I just touched. I looked at her, then at the hand. Teagen looked like she was going to jump out of her skin. I reached up, moved the neckline of her shirt over to reveal the shoulder. Only to find a blackening bruise. "Who did that to you?" I asked. The thought of anyone hurting her, makes my blood boil.
"My dad." I was shocked at the admission. Dont abused people usually hide that information? I have never been abused, so I dont know.
"Are you okay?" She was not making eye contact with me or trying to get comfort. I
guess she doesnt see me as a friend at all.
"Im fine....Could I borrow your headphones?" I blinked at the sudden change of the subject.
"Sure." I stood from her bed and retrieved my CD player and my headphones. "Are you sure youre okay?" This time she looked up at me.
"Yeah, thank you."
I dont know whether it was wise to let the matter slide, but what could I do? The subject wasnt mentioned again that day. I turned my stereo on, not very loud now that I have a roommate, to begin studying for my next quiz. Anthropology. Gods, I hate anthropology. Who the hell talked me into using it as a couple of credits? I glance over to find Teagen sitting up in her bed, reading. "Do you want me to turn this down?" I gestured.
"Nah, but can you put in that Savage Garden CD?" I smile.
"Sure." I reach over and placed it in my stereo. "Any song?"
"I like em all." This was probably the most she has said to me at one time.
It was during Chapter 28 that she decided to leave to get something from the vending machines. I hated the idea of her leaving, but then again. With my desk being near the door, I can get a nice view of that cute ass on her way out, which I took full advantage of. I was startled when she disappeared around the corner of the door frame, only to come back in a second later. Teagen gave me a funny look, when she saw my reaction. "You want a candy bar?"
"Uhhhhhh...sure." I squeaked. When she left again, I breathed a sigh of relief. I came dangerously close to being caught.
Now I know I wont be able to read any more tonight. I threw my pencil onto my book and sat back in my chair. It wasnt planned, but I think I have a crush on my roommate. She is so cute, it hurts to think about it. Just how do I ask her about her sexual preference? Cant very well say, Hey, are you gay? I chuckle to myself.
"Whats so funny?" she asks as she hands me a Snickers bar. Where did she come from?
"Just thinking." I quickly unwrap the bar and take a bite, so that my mouth is too occupied to elaborate.
"That can be dangerous." She smiles at me and I am stunned, in a good way. Teagen is truly beautiful.
"You dont know how right you are." I smile back. Something happens that I couldnt have predicted. Our eyes meet and we continue to gaze at each other as we eat our snacks. My moment is dashed when she looks away after a minute or so.
"Huh?" I see deep thought in those moss green eyes.
"No, what is it? Im listening."
"I just dont want you to think less of me."
"Why would I do that?" I finish off the chocolate and toss the wrapper into the trash can next to her bed.
"About...my father." I stand and move to her. With my eyes I asked permission to sit, which she granted.
"I dont think less of you, Tay. If you ever want to talk about it..or anything, Im here."
"Really....Now dont you have a class meeting to go to tonight?" She looked quickly at her watch.
"Damn." She jumps up and grabs her bag. "Thank you for reminding me."
"No problem." I stand to my full height.
"Are you gonna be here when I get back?" I was a little surprised...and happy that she wanted to know where I was.
"Im going to run over to Sherris and work on her computer for a little while. Shouldnt be too long. Ill meet ya back here, okay?" A grin spreads across her face. I nearly fainted when she reached up and kissed me softly on the cheek.
"Thanks...Id like to talk to you about something when we get back."
"Okay. See ya then." I opened the door. She went one way and I went another.
Sherris dorm wasnt far from ours, but I still had to walk outside. The sun was slowly sinking into the bay and I know that drives motorists crazy. I was glad I was walking and not on the highway, trying to go anywhere west. It made me squint just thinking about it. I hadnt noticed, until I stepped outside, that it had rained leaving a clean, misty scent that still hung in the air. I casually waved to several girls I knew from our floor as I made my way in. Its noisy in the dorm, as it normally is on a Friday night. I climbed the stairs two at a time. I was happy for some reason. Teagen had had such a look on her face earlier and I had feeling it was something good she wanted to talk about; maybe us.
I passed several screaming girls in the hall. They were watching some boy band concert on TV in one of the rooms. I just shook my head. I heard a distressing noise over the commotion. I listened again. It was a cross between a guttural moan and a childlike whimper. Then I saw Teagen. She was sitting against the wall, with her head down. I looked at her quizzically. Shes just several yards away from our door.
"Hey Tay." I approach her and get no response. "Hey." I shake her and she jerks violently away from me. I immediately notice the cut on the side of her face. She looks up at me as if shes never seen me before. My first impression was that her father hurt her again. If that bastard shows up here on parents day, Im gonna stomp his....
"Its me." I kneel down to to look into her eyes. "What happened?" She started to cry again. "Its okay. Can you stand?" I took her elbow and helped her up. She groaned through the entire process of getting to her feet. I caught her as wobbly legs threatened to give out on her. Without thought I pick her up in my arms and carry her the rest of the way to our door. I set her down and she clutches me like a lifeline. I open the door with my key and step inside.
I lead her to the bed that was the closest, which just happens to be mine, and place her on it. Looking into her eyes, from a kneeling position, I ask, "Did you get into fight?" She shook her head no. I reached over and grabbed my tissue box. Taking one out, I gently wiped at her tears, only to have more replace them. "What happened, Tay. Tell me."
"Okay. Three what?" I asked.
"Three." she repeated. Then she elaborated. "Three guys." I saw
"Three guys beat you up?" She didnt answer. I grabbed a tissue and wiped the blood from her cheek. "Lie down."
"This is your bed..."
"Lie down, its okay." I carefully removed her sneakers and draped my blanket over her. Obsession. I sniffed again. Obsession for Men. Another smell, so familiar....photographic chemicals. I know that combination. Sherrys boyfriend. I realize strangely that I only know that from the other night. The night I was tricked into watching Braveheart with her and four guys. She knows I hate men. Bitch. Putting that aside, I asked her, "Is one of them stout? Wore a beat up Bulls jacket?" She nodded, confirming his identity. I stand and move to the door.
"Where are you going?" a soft voice asks.
"Ill be right back, Sweetheart. Ive just gotta do something."
"Dont go." she pleaded.
"Ill be back. I promise you. Ill leave my key and lock the door; dont let anyone but me in. Okay?" Im gonna kill that asshole. Hes the most sexist pig Ive ever had the pleasure to hate. I cant believe hed attack Teagan like that.
I knew where theyd be. Sherri meets him, and his vile friends, after her biology class. I made my way to the bench they always leaned on or sat on this time of day....and there they were. They were even more boisterous today than usual. They were so busy chatting that they didnt even see me stomp towards them. Kyle looked up in time to see my fist just before it hit his face. He fell to the ground, stunned. His friends pointed and laughed at him.
"Sam, what are you doing?" Sherri grabbed my shoulder. I wrenched away.
"Let go of me." I said to her without turning around. "Who the hell do you think you are, hitting my friend!?" I hissed.
"What? That little...." one of his friends started, but another elbowed him in the ribs, shutting him up.
"That little what?" I turned and asked him. I towered over him and I used every inch I could to intimidate him. Now they were all silent. Sherri continued pulling on my arm to get me to move, but I kept yanking my arm out of her grasp. Kyle slowly got to his feet with a smug grin on his face, one that I would love to wipe off.
"Didnt you hear?" I just looked at him. "Your buddys a dyke." he grinned.
"Ewwww." One boy said in disgust. My top was about to blow sky high. "But she was a great piece of ass." I swung around.
"What did you say?" My stomach fell into my feet. I felt like running behind
a bush and throwing up. "You raped her?"
"Rapes a very strong word," he sneered. That was it. So much for keeping my cool.
Im not sure exactly what I did or how long it took. I remember punching each of them at least twice. I remember kicking someone once they were down on the ground. I dimly recall cheers from a few onlookers. One thing I did know for sure was all of them were lying on the ground, moaning, and holding one particular part of their body. Kyle was in tears from a well placed knee. Once my anger was vented, I was overcome with sadness. The girl I now realized I loved more than anything, who I was just about to ask out, had been beaten and assaulted by a couple fraternity assholes.
I wasted no time in running back to my dorm. I bolted in the door, up the stairs, and to our door apologizing to the people I mowed down in the process. I knocked on the door. In doing so, I realized my knuckles were bruised, and one was cut. "Damn." I cursed to myself, shaking my most injured hand.
"Teagen...Open the door. Its me." After a few seconds, I heard her unlock the door. I immediately stepped in, locking it behind me. She looked terrible. I coaxed her over to my bed and sat with her. Without thought, I engulfed her with my arms and just held her. I noticed injures that I hadnt seen before, now that she has changed into shorts. Her upper arms were already purpling and her legs were covered with large, darkening areas. There was a dark, red mark on her right jaw. She wouldnt meet my eyes, but she surrendered to my embrace.
The more I thought about it, the angrier I got. "What happened?"
"They jumped me between the dorms and the courtyard." She wasnt crying. Thank goodness. I dont think I could take that right now. "Kyle started beating me up for talking to Sherri," she sniffed as she wiped her nose. "Saying I was trying to make her a dyke like me." I closed my eyes briefly to regain my sanity. "Then the bigger guy said hed never had a dyke before and said all I needed was a real man." I took a long, deep breath.
"Im calling campus police."
"No! Dont. Please."
"Then Im taking you to the student health center. They raped you, Teagen."
"You need to be checked out." She reached up and caressed my cheek.
"Will you come with me?"
"Of course I will." She looked down at my hands.
"Sam....what did you do?" I took great interest in our carpet suddenly. She raised my
head up with her finger. "Thank you."
"They wont touch you again." I said sincerely. Teagen embraced me softly. Despite the situation, I didnt want this to end.
I sat in the narrow hallway, practically lying down in my chair. Teagen has been in there for over thirty minutes and Im getting fidgety. They wouldnt let me stay with her. I protested at first and then yielded. As I sat there, I looked over and saw my friends coming in the main entrance, with Sherri. They all looked like they had been hit with a truck. They made their way into the waiting area. When one of them saw me, he got the others attention. I raised up out of my chair with a face of stone. I spread my arms, holding them in invitation to start something else with me. The boys held their hands up and wisely backed away to the far corner to fill out their forms. I retook my seat, not taking my eyes off of them.
Sherri kept looking over at me as she wrote something down. I thought she was my friend, but I guess I was sadly mistaken. Luckily they ushered the boys in before Tay came out. I was told she was okay, but that was no consolation to my soul. I feel like I let her down. I was so enraged that I left her to fend for herself, when I should have stayed to help her. Teagen had managed to avoid their questions about what happened quite well. She did admit to them that she was attacked, but wouldnt say anymore than that.
The next two weeks had come and gone so fast. It had been a roller coaster of emotions for both of us. Her struggling to come to terms with herself and me doing the same. As her grief stages lifted, it was becoming harder and harder to live with my secret. She was gradually returning to her old self again. My feelings, that I had pushed aside for the duration of her healing process, are stronger than ever. Each smile, each touch is burned into my mind. I want to tell her how feel. I need to, before I explode. My timing, I scold myself, could have been better.
Parents Day. I hate Parents Day. Teagen was a nervous wreck waiting for her folks to show up at the dorm. She had managed to talk them out of all of the dorky, bonding type activities. That had been helped along by some family member being sick, cutting their visit time in half. Not that I wished them ill, but if it got her out of a tough spot, it was fine by. "So, theyre coming just to check out your dorm room? Isnt that a little odd? Teagen laughed softly. It was music to my ears to hear that sound again.
"Well Sam, to tell you the truth, they are probably more interested in my roommate
than my room."
"Huh?" I looked right into those emerald green eyes. They were smiling. "Youre kidding right?"
"Fraid not. My father is an abusive drunk who learned about a year ago that his baby girl doesnt like boys. He is not a happy camper, Sam.. Hes paranoid. Now he thinks he sees lesbians everywhere." It was on the tip of my tongue to tell her there are two lesbians in this room.
I heard a knock on the door. Shit! Not now! It had taken me nearly two weeks to get around to telling her I was gay. She looked at the door, then at me. There was a torn look on her face. Then she reached out and touched my face with only the pads of the fingers on her right hand. "I think I know what youre going to say...and I already know." I was speechless to say the least. What had I done to give myself away?
I nodded and covered her fingers with mine. My heart was making its way to my throat as I watched those lips Ive dreamed of coming towards mine. A soft kiss was placed on my lips that lingered. I smiled. "Sam...the door." she said against my lips.
"Shit." I cursed, forgetting her parents were on the other side. I opened the door and was overcome with nervousness. My stomach was doing somersaults. I do remember introducing myself and shaking hands with them. I was afraid that I was going to lose it the minute I met her asshole father, but my mind was too full to even remember where I was.
I think they were here for an hour or more. I cant be certain. All I saw was Tay. I dimly recall words being spoken to me, but I just nodded. My groin seemed to be overpowering my brain. So I guess this is the way men feel all the time huh? She made playful, almost lustful, eyes at me making the wait even harder. I wasnt sure what she was going to do to me when they left, but I didnt care. I just wanted them to leave so we could be alone again. My world had tilted when her lips brushed mine and all I cared about was tilting it again.
My last memory of that visit was the good-byes, the handshakes. I practically slammed the door when they left, locking it for some much needed privacy. Soft, warm lips were on my neck. A hot breath passed my left ear and strong hands pressed me down onto the bed. Her bed. I felt her arm slide around my waist and things started to come back into focus. Gentle hands captured my face as her mouth found mine as the fading light of the setting sun streaked into the room. "Sam?"
My tongue reached out to meet hers as I felt her press our bodies backward into a lying position. "Mmm?" I answered.
"Ill go out on a limb and assume that your tongue in my mouth means we swing
the same way."
"I thought you knew that already." I smiled.
"I did.....just before my parents walked in." Now that we had a breather, so to speak, my
mind began to kick in again.
"Are you sure?" I asked softly. It was still early, in my opinion, for her to want to do this.
"I love you, Sam."
"I love you, too." No sweeter words were ever spoken. "Make love to me. Please."
Her mouth was hot and insistent. Her lips moved against mine pressing our mouths open so that our tongues could dance intimately.
"Teagen, are you sure. I mean...." My mind was still not sure. The last thing I wanted to do was hurt her. Her hips pressed into mine tightly as if in answer to my query. Her hands slid down my sides, past my hips, to the tops of my legs, and then to the insides of my thighs. Gently, but firmly, she moved my thighs apart until her slim body slid between my legs. Once in position, she did this slide and thrust thing that caught me by surprise and nearly robbed me of the ability to breathe. Her hands found their way to the buttons of my shirt. "Damn, Tay. Youre driving me crazy." I moaned.
Her fingers continued to work the buttons while her hips kept up the thrusting and her mound pounded and slid against me. The air conditioning must have died because I was sweating like Arizona in August. I kept trying to force my brain to stay focused. It had only been a few weeks since she had been raped. Maybe she only thought she wanted this. Maybe if I gave in to the inferno lodging itself into my groin, she would hate me tomorrow. God, I couldnt risk losing her. I really love her. Suddenly, I heard the buttons being torn away and I felt fingers opening my bra, making way for her anxious tongue. I groaned at the action.
"Sorry, baby. I owe you a new shirt."
"Ugh. Okay. Tay, oh god, that feels...wait...wait, Teagen. Its too soon." My last stand on the issue. "I cant risk...."
Her mouth found my other breast as her hand claimed the one her tongue had abandoned. "Not too soon, Sam. Please. I need this, I want you, Sam." She rocked against me harder and lifted to look into my eyes, pleading. I wasnt sure how much longer my body could deny what it wanted more than anything else in the world: Teagen. This went beyond physical desire. Past anything I had ever felt before. I wanted this woman in every way. Clearly, she wanted me. I searched those incredible eyes and found my answer. My hands found her ass and pulled her into me as hard as I could. Then again...and again.
"Yes. More. Harder."
I couldnt get my jeans off without separating from her and there was no way in hell I was gonna do that. Not now. I spread my legs as far apart as I could get them and my hips raised all the way off of the bed to meet each thrust. My hands gripped her butt and moved her hard against me, increasing the sliding motion that accompanied each thrust. Our breathing was getting ragged and I could almost hear our hearts beating wildly. A trembling began in our legs and she gripped my shoulders tightly as she pounded into me with complete abandon. "Sam, come with me." she moaned into my ear.
"I dont know if..."
"Please. Come with me, Sam. I love you."
Our legs were trembling nearly out of control now. We were drenched in perspiration and I have no idea how we were managing to breathe. In the back of my mind, I feared I was leaving a bruise on that great ass of hers, but I couldnt stop. Then our hands and arms began to tremble and still the thrusting and sliding continued.
"More Sam. Dont stop. Harder. God, I love you. I love you, Sam."
"Tay! Oh my go..."
Our bodies jerked and slammed into one another in a series of spasms like nothing I had ever felt before. It seemed to go on for minutes until finally she went limp in my arms and my hands released their grip on that wonderful rear end of hers. Gradually, our breathing returned to normal and our heartbeats were less audible. I reached up to brush the hair from her face and found tears. It was only then that I realized I was crying too. She looked at me with such tenderness, I thought I would melt into a puddle on the bedspread.
"Sam, that was incredible. We didnt even get our pants off."
"Its a wonder they didnt go up in flames. Tay, I have never, ever felt anything like that before."
She kissed my nose. "I would say youre just trying to be nice, except I felt it too.
It wasnt too soon, Sweetheart. I love you and I needed this....you. Now.."
"Now? Up went my eyebrow. "What do you mean.. now? Now.... what?" Blonde eyebrows wiggled as she lit the room with a smile.
"Now... we take off our pants." She reached for my zipper and I thought: Love. You just never know where youll find it. Reaching for the buttons on her fly, I thanked whatever powers in the universe might be responsible for my latest discovery: Teagen. My destiny. I will love her forever.
