04 Centerpiece Story - Chicago

Διηγούμαι την ιστορία της φωτιάς και της άνεσης...

I sing the song of fire and comfort

We finally found ourselves leaving the woods behind and were now in an area of high prairie grass. As far as we could see, the golden yellow grass swayed, looking like it was slowly dancing with the wind. It was peaceful, but the grit from the pollen was starting to get to me. Xena stopped and held her head up, looking like a predator searching for its prey. Then she smiled and told me to come on as she picked up the pace. After a few yards I understood what her hurry was. I finally got a whiff of water. Yes! We were going to get a bath and some fish! It was going to be a wonderful night, after all.

All of a sudden, Xena slowed down. As I caught up with her, I could smell it too, not just water but smoke, and we held our pace as we came over a slight hill and we saw it. The lake, shimmering blue and huge.  But, more importantly, there was a bustling city, about the size of Athens and there were flames coming up from it. Xena grabbed me, we hopped on Argo and rode into the city. There were people passing buckets hurriedly, pouring water into the flames. I thanked the gods that that great lake was there, and Xena agreed that those people would need all the water they could get. As we were heading towards the fire, we came across a lady who was frantically trying to get her cow out of a barn. The city was burning and this lady was worried about her cow! Although I know if it was Argo, Xena would be getting to her as well. I looked up and saw a water tower, which I pointed out to Xena. She smiled and after a few moves we found ourselves on top of it. I grabbed the spigot and turned as Xena hit it with her sword. It busted, sending a cascading wall of water over the barn and over the rest of the fire. The lady with the cow waved at us and shouted her thanks. After we got down, she was so grateful to us for saving her cow that she invited us to stay at her inn.

We found out firsthand that Mrs O’Leary happened to be the best cook in all of Chicago and for the first time in many days we were fully sated from the food, the comfort of a soft bed and a wonderful night just enjoying each other and

life. It doesn’t get much better than this!
