Last Saturday was the 10th Gathering of Fans in Sydney and it was a resounding success. Even more so by the amount of $1039.00 (AUS) for charity. Congratulations to the organisers, Sue B, Stripe & Feral, Mark A and to all of those who contributed! Well done folks.

Australians have been encouraged to observe a minute's silence at noon and wear a piece of wattle on Sunday to commemorate the national day of mourning for the dead and bereaved of the Bali terrorist attack.

Prime Minister John Howard said wearing wattle would be "a simple unifying tribute". He also encouraged the planting of wattle seeds where possible as a quiet personal gesture of remembrance and reflection.

If you can't find the wattle (which is just going out of season) you can wear a green ribbon. Green and gold are Australia's national colours. For those in Sydney, there will be a community tribute at The Domain. Details below http://www.smh.com.au/articles/2002/10/17/1034561269047.html

Today is a very sad day in Australia - October 12 saw a terrorist blast in Kuta, Bali, Indonesia. Bali is where a lot of Australians go for their holidays - it's a stone's throw from Australia (3 hours). Two bombs went off and according to reports "110 Australians injured and a further 220 unaccounted for at this stage:. Those who survived suffered horrific burns and other injuries. Many of them were from football clubs who were celebrating their end of season or Aussies on their annual holidays.

Those who survived are being airlifted back home to hospitals that can care for their burns because the hospitals in Bali are overwhelmed.

This was a heinous terrorist act and those that perpertrated it are cowards and lowlifes. As we all learned on September 11, that no one is immune to madmen who wish to spread their hatred. We are witnessing this also in Washington DC where the sniper has already claimed 8 lives and hurt 2.

Stephen, proprietor of István’s Café, has very kindly offered his credit card facilities for those of you who prefer to go plastic. So that the charities fully benefit, we know that you’ll accept the small merchant’s fee added to each credit card transaction.

Bid even if you can’t attend!

Something you just gotta have but can’t make it on the night? Easy, here’s a couple of ways to get that treasure.

1. Email your highest bid. Email me with an accurate description of the item you’re bidding for and state your maximum bid. I will become your proxy and bid on your behalf up to the max. As usual, payment is due on the fall of the hammer (or whatever Stripe uses to make a big "bang"). I will organise payment details with you prior to the event so that nothing will hinder your purchase.
2. Send in a friend to act as your proxy. And you can keep a finger on the pulse by mobile – just like at Christie’s! Your friend will pay on your behalf and will lovingly bring your prize home for you.

Delivery

All items are portable however, if necessary, I can arrange delivery of your purchase to any destination (that’s my job!). If you are an off-site bidder, I will have all your relevant details in place before the auction and your hoard will be on its way to you before you can say, "Here She Comes, Miss Amphipolis." (Wouldn’t that be a lovely parcel to receive and unpack?)

Most important! Seating is limited – please reserve your seat as soon as possible!

• Further the Lucy alert on the Simpsons. Turns out that isn't a new Lucy segment but the Simpsons equivalent of a clip show (how can an animated show have a clip show?). The episode is called 'Gump Roast" and not "A Roast For Homer" as previously mentioned.

• Lucy will be lending her voice as Xena in a new Simpsons episode to be airred on Channel 10 - 16 September. The episode is called A Roast for Homer, and Lucy does the voice of Xena, who is there to insult Homer.
