CHANNEL 10 PROTEST PAGE

The airring of Xena has been one of the most inept episodes of Australian Television.

Australian Xenites were dealt a heavy blow on the 2nd June 1999. Channel 10 (the only TV station to air Xena around Australia) decided to remove the show from it's lineup. Prior to this on the 31st May 1999 we were told that BETWEEN THE LINES was going to be the last episode of the season for the show in Australia.

We found out on the 2nd June that BETWEEN THE LINES was going to be removed from the lineup and replaced with making of the Star Wars film. This was met with disbelief around DUX - The Down Under Xenites - The Aussie Xena Fan Club and on other lists.

Why has this happened? Channel 10 is not a tv channel that enjoys high ratings for their shows they air. Unfortunately for us the station airred the show at the 7:30 pm timeslot - a kids timeslot! We all know that Xena is not for kids and never has been and with the darker episodes of Season 3 and 4 they refused to air the show at another time. The ratings for the show have declined - back in May 1998 it was rathed 58th in Sydney a television audience of 1.3 million viewers Since that time it had slipped to 72nd in the ratings. That isn't as bad as Mad About You which rates 125th!

The Way was scheduled to be airred October 16, 1999 but channel 10 decided to remove it for "cultural sensitive reasons" even though the edited version was screened in the US.

Since then three episodes of Season 4 have not been show.

The Way
Ides of March
Deja Vu All Over Again

The lastest from channel 10 is that the show has been axed for this year. News is that channel 10 may not have the rights to Season 5 for next year. But in the meantime
