- For US Xenites
December 15 at 9:00 - A tour of New Zealand with Karl Urban on the Travel Channel.- More on Karl Urban
In the new US TV guide issue (Dec 14-20) there is a small but good picture of Karl Urban from "The Lord of the Rings". There is also a very small quote from him about the movie in the two page (pages 44 and 45) article11 December
Hudson Leick is providing the voice to a new PS2 game coming soon. It's a sort of spooky Tomb Raider variant, with HL doing the main character. Apparently there's over 200 pages of script involved. More on http://www.gamespy.com/e32002/ps2/primal/

- Karl Urban (Julius Caeser) has been been mentioned as one of the Sexiest Men Alive in People Magazine - 2 December 2002 Issue.
ACTOR AGE: 30 HEIGHT: 6'1" STATUS: Has a girlfriend and a 2-year- old son RESIDENCE: A home in Auckland, New Zealand BREAKTHROUGH ROLE: Eomer, a warrior in this month's The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers BACKGROUND: Growing up in Wellington, New Zealand, Urban got a taste of role-playing as Han Solo in neighborhood games of Star Wars: "I was 5, and I remember thinking, 'Wow, this is exactly what I want to do.'" By 1996 he had made a career of it, landing parts on two syndicated TV shows--Cupid on Hercules: The Legendary Journeys and Julius Caesar on Xena: Warrior Princess. "Karl is ruggedly heroic yet imbues his roles with sensitivity," says Rings director Peter Jackson, who cast Urban because "we needed someone who could hold their own against Ian McKellen." WINNING WAYS: "Karl has a confident charm that allows him to be tousled without seeming unkempt," says Melissa Blake, a writer on Hercules and Xena. The trick, Urban points out, is "putting on the clothes I had on the day before--if they aren' t too dirty."The following is from Creation Entertainment
- Due to continued demand, Norwegian Cruise Lines has extended our payment period for cabins to January 20, 2003! That means those of you who want to come on the cruise but have been unable to do so until this point have almost two more months to get in your payment in full to secure your place on this first-ever cruise! At that time our new block will be released and we will TRY to negotiate yet another small block. Even if we are able to get an additional room block, prices will raise yet again, so we urge you to buy your cruise fare before January 20th to insure availability and price. KIWI STARS DROP INTO NEIGHBOURHOOD
(First she slayed Xena, now Michelle Ang and Jay Bunyan hope to slay Australian audiences.) Although Michelle Ang considers landing a role in Neighbours her big break, the 18 year old already has a claim to fame. "I killed Xena", she says with a giggle. Ang played Akemi, a Japanese princess, in the last two episodes of the popular sword and sworcery series. In a complex storyline, Ang's character sends Xena (Lucy Lawless) on a death mission, where she has to die to save everyone.
"I got so much hate mail on the web", Ang says.

- We're organizing an auction for Carol Georgio's daughter who's going through expensive medical treatments for her battle with cancer. It's taking a toll on this Xena bard both emotionally and financially. Myself and another Xenite are trying to get items to auction off that will go to Carol to help pay these hospital bills. She's not a non-profit organization so you can't 'write off' your contributions but it would be wonderful if people would look past that and donate to this cause. Things are still in the planning stage. At this time we are looking for fellow bards who will donate books, tapes, autographed story covers, you name it. Also if there are any fans out there that would like to
donate any personal items to the cause that would also be appreciated. You can contact CN cnwinters@hotmail.com and BardKC kmcmage@aol.com

It is being offered through the women's studies program in the College of Extended Learning and is open to everyone. The following is from Sharon Delaney regarding the Coffee Talk 2 video
- "We've got to tell people what we're sitting on," Lucy said to Renee, "or they're going to think we're very rude." Renee laughed just as the hot tub we had covered with a flat board, quilts and pillows let loose with this incredible gurgling noise. They both giggled. It was a walk down memory lane starting with the first time Xena and Gabrielle appeared on screen together in "Sins Of The Past." Gabrielle is trying to convince Xena to take her away from her boring village life and dull fiance into a world of adventure. As the images came up on the TV, Renee looked over at Lucy, "Do you remember filming this?" "I do actually," Lucy said. "I remember meeting you that first week and you would look at me like . . ." "You're a goddess!" Renee finished Lucy's sentence and they both laughed. "Well, that's over," Lucy remarked wryly. "By the fifth season you were punching me in the stomach." And that set the tone for the afternoon.

LOS ANGELES (Film Music Magazine) -- In a move destined to set a precedent for the film and television composing industry, Michigan composer Dan Kolton has claimed the legal copyright and authorship of hundreds of musical cues he says he composed while ghostwriting for the top-rated Hercules and Xena television series....According to Kolton, the music, written during 1995-2000, was composed at the request of composer Joseph Lo Duca, who Kolton says is listed as the author of Koltons music on the shows music cue sheets which direct who performing rights royalties are to be paid to. Lo Duca, who ASCAP has awarded twice as a top earning composer over these same years, is listed in industry references and on-screen as the music composer for the shows, "Hercules: The Legendary Journeys," "Xena: Warrior Princess," and "Young Hercules." The shows are currently in syndication worldwide.

Casting call for Xena wannabes
Calling all convincing Camelot-like thespians. Listen up all you Lucy Lawless wannabes. It's all very hush-hush, but the word is out that a casting call for a new American television action/fantasy series, to be filmed largely in Canterbury, is imminent. Samuel Miller Films is line- producing for the 24-part drama series, which is scheduled to begin pre-production in 2003. The TV series is rumoured to have a projected budget double the size of the Xena: Warrior Princess series. The project is estimated to provide a multimillion-dollar boost to the Christchurch economy, and will employ about 60 people, says managing director Samuel Miller. Miller, who travels to Los Angeles and Cannes regularly in his work, is already looking for actors. He says he would love to find New Zealand actors for the leading roles. The ability to speak with a convincing American accent is a must, however. Actors interested in tackling meaty television roles (that may involve armour and battle scenes) are welcome to send CVs, videotapes, and headshots to: Samuel Miller Films Ltd, The Penthouse, Level 7, St Elmo Courts, 47 Hereford Street, Christchurch. Extras need not apply, at this point.21 June

Dear Xena Fan:
Creation has been approached by a cruise line to co-produce an exciting "Xena Fan Cruise Convention". This amazing week-long vacation would potentially be held in May of 2003 and leave from Miami for the Carribean, or from Los Angeles for Mexico. There would be Xena themed entertainment aboard, including ten or so guest stars (Lucy or Renee would not be part of this event). Top of the line food and cruise entertainments would also be part of the deal, and shore excursions would additionally be offered. The base price would be somewhat expensive, somewhere around $1500.00 per person - double occupancy. So, we'd really appreciate some feedback from Xena fans as to whether this would be of interest. Please take the time to vote at our poll

The following is from Sharon Delaney (Official Xena Fan Club)
- For those who have been asking, the Official Xena Fan Club Newsletter #18 has started to ship. I thought I'd give ya'll a peek at issue #19. There were some interesting notes on the recent photo approval forms I sent to Lucy and Renee that I thought you might enjoy. I sent a batch of photos from Hercules episodes where Lucy did crossovers. Next to one of the numbers was a smiley face. When I looked up the matching photo, it turned out to be from "Stranger In A Strange World." It's a photo of Xena at the end of the cake fight with Aphrodite. Lucy said she just loved that shot. Sure can't accuse her of only clearing photos where she looks perfect as so often happens in Hollywood. In fact, both Lucy and Renee have never had any qualms about approving photos where they were messed up, dirty, funny-looking or screaming in battle.

Many thanks to Meredith for the following
- I just wanted to let you and your readers know that a very unique program aired today on the radio in the US: one of the programmers at a noncommercial community radio station in Jersey City, New Jersey, WFMU-FM did an hour-long tribute to the music of Kevin Smith. For a solid hour, John Allen played songs from two of the bands Kevin was in in the early 1980's, Say Yes To Apes and Hyphen-Smyth. It was fascinating. It definitely wasn't *anything* like what he did in either of the musical episodes or in the con cabarets!! WFMU archives almost all of its programming on their web site. Today's show isn't up there yet, but within the next day or two it should appear at http://www.wfmu.org/playlists/ja. The Kevin Smith tribute took up the entire final hour of the three-hour show. This is the most unique tribute I've seen to Kevin's memory ... I hope other Xenites can enjoy it too.

The following is from Di Bauden about the Chicago BardCon 2002
"On Sunday April 14, I hosted a Chicago Xena Night at Stargaze bar to begin our closing ceremonies for Chicago BardCon 2002. During Xena Night, we held a silent auction of signed books, Xena merchandise and signed Xena Live! merchandise, with proceeds going to Project ALS. There were only about 25 of us in the bar, but we were able to raise exactly $1000 for Project ALS! The Xenaverse community never ceases to amaze me with the amount of generosity in their hearts. I just want to thank each and every one of you that helped make that night possible and successful. This cause is very important to my family and to so many others. I'm just so thrilled we were able to make some money for such a deserving charity. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart." For more information on Project ALS go to http://www.projectals.org

Bardcon.org will be holding their first (of what hopes to be) annual meeting in Chicago April 13th and 14th, 2002. We expect first year attendance at 200 people and we are planning things accordingly. At this time we are researching locations and expect ticket prices to be $45 for both days of the convention. A dinner is also being planned for 7 pm on Sunday, the final day of the convention at a separate charge this again will be in the $30-40 range. If feasible we may offer a discount to those who purchase both a con ticket and a dinner ticket.
Were currently looking for fan fiction writers who would like to meet with fans that weekend to discuss the characters we love. Buffy, Xena, Star Trek, Star Wars, you name it its a workshop/panel/seminar atmosphere which will let the bards interact with the readers and vice verse. As an added bonus to Xena fans, the About Face Theater will be doing a musical revue of Xena Live II with a special performance time for us, which will be announced at a later date, where the audience can do a Q and A with the shows stars and writers. Ticket prices for Xena Live will also follow soon.
Currently, were searching for fan fiction writers from all areas on the web. If you think youre interested in attending and/or would like to be part of a discussion/signing event please email bardcon@hotmail.com and information will be sent to you.
Weve been to many official conventions over the years and one of the most appeal aspects are the fan run events during those times. This is a convention created by the fans for the fans so we ask that you take the time to consider it and please let us know if you would be willing to commit to a tentative schedule.
Thank you for your time,
Bardcon Organizers,

Creation has also announced that Josie Ryan (Lucy's younger sister) will be debuting her play "Sister WonderWoman" at the convention. Sister WonderWoman is an expose into the lives and loves of a Hollywood superhero has-been and those of her humdrum, homespun sister from the sticks. She plays the roles of both sisters. We follow the career of Rhonda Carter as she encounters the world of TV, husbands who are in love with her alter ego rather than the woman herself, her decline, her reliance on booze and drugs and her attempts to create a new life after stardom. The other story of Sylvia is of the frustrations of living in the shadow of a famous sister, of boyfriends who are interested only in her sister and a naive quest for personal success.
