(Yes we are talking about Tom and B’Elanna and don’t worry Captain Janeway will get a mention)
 

Tom walked along whistling ‘whistle while you work, Der len der len der len’. Chocotay came whizzing round the corner wearing his some what strained ‘I’m happy’ face’.

‘Good morning friend of mine’ said Tom brightly too brightly for Chocotay after all he had already been happy for four hours and his happiness was wearing thin.

‘lovely day’ said Tom

‘Isn’t it’ said Kes as she passed.

Tom practically skipped along the corridor to engineering he had to pay a visit to B’Elanna after all it could be his only chance for her to be nice to him after all she had to be.

‘Halo’ said Tom

‘Morning’ replied B’Elanna with a very fake smile.

‘was it a smile I just saw, was it, was it’.

B’Elanna gritted her teeth ‘ Monday Tuesday, happy days’ she sung quietly under her breath this was the chosen song for engineering B’Elanna couldn’t think why Stelastartograpy had Aqua ‘happy boys and girls’ and lucky bridge got ‘whistle while we work’ B’Elanna had wondered just what group were the seven dwarfs but B’Elanna counted herself lucky the Doctor had spent all morning singing something called ‘the song that never ends’ she didn’t know this one but she had a funny feeling she soon would. At that moment in walked Captain Janeway the whole of the engineering began singing ‘theses days are ours’

‘oh happy days’ said B’Elanna weakly

‘pardon B’Elanna’ said Tom sweetly knowing B’Elanna’s dislike of singing if not knowing the reason ‘would you like to do a solo’

B’Elanna went pale, the engineering crew went pale Captain Janeway went even paler ‘Tom shouldn’t you be on your way to the bridge now’ said the Captain. He left singing ‘whistle while you work’ in a rather high pitched tone wondering just why no one wanted B’Elanna to sing.

‘we all remember what happened last time you sang’ said the captain icily

‘yes you pulled my hair’ replied B’Elanna

‘haven’t you got over that yet girls’ asked Carey ‘isn’t it time to kiss and make up’

It was all she could do not to hit Carey but she had seen enough of Chocotay all ready this morning he had come down to engineering with his rather fake ‘I’m happy face’ on and she did not want to see him again she would prefer to see Tom rather than him, B’Elanna not knowing she was thinking aloud carried on her little conversation to herself as she often did it’s strange how a person with so many friends has to spend all of her time talking to herself ‘well Tom has a better singing voice than Chocotay and at least he doesn’t hide his face quite a nice face really.

‘excuse me’ said Carey

‘has he really, I dare say’ she said in her happy voice she then said in a sad voice ‘you never tell me anything anymore you always go to Kes’.

B’Elanna looked around nervously wondering just how much everyone had heard. Captain Janeway smiled and said ‘I’ll be seeing Tom shortly want me to give him a message and I must agree Tom’s smile is a winner’

‘did I say that’ thought B’Elanna out loud again.

‘no’ replied the captain

‘pardon’ asked B’Elanna

‘I saw it in your eyes’ explained the Captain

‘I really must control this’ she absentmindedly thought out loud.

‘well you better try’ said Carey

‘shut up’ she screamed ‘get back to work and don’t talk to me again today no ever or I might hit you’.

The crew of engineering were used to these outbursts especially when Tom had been for a visit fortunately so was Carey who quietly turned and pretended to scan something. Captain Janeway on the other hand was not

‘B’Elanna’ she said shocked, surprised and bewildered all at the same time ‘happy day remember say sorry this instance’. B’Elanna sat down and wept. Captain Janeway looked horrified ‘no no happy no crying’

‘call for Tom after all he’s mister wonderful’ B’Elanna hit him Susan in turn hit B’Elanna all three of them collapsed in a heap.

‘call for the Doctor someone I’m going to the bridge’ Captain Janeway turned and left remembering why she didn’t come down here often. She knew Seska would be arriving in two hours she had to pull her crew together and make them happy she had to show Seska that this was a good, happy crew and she was a good captain and a happy one. She knew she had to work on engineering Seska was bound to want to see it and it was far from happy.

B’Elanna, Susan and Carey were all lying on beds B’Elanna found this unnecessary but apparently Carey didn’t. The doctor came in singing

‘This is a song that has no end,

yes it goes on and on my friend,

some people started singing it,

not knowing what it was

and they continued singing

it forever just because

this is a song that never ends,

yes it goes on and on my……’

One look at B’Elanna’s face and he decided it was time to stop this ridiculous song he would have treated B’Elanna first but as usual she was apparently not the victim once again poor, poor Carey was

‘poor, poor Carey’ how anyone could get a broken nose and a broken chin from one slap in the face was beyond him but then he remembered just who had hit him he called for Chocotay.

‘oh no another visit from Chocotay’ she had been dreading seeing him again.

‘OK what happened then maybe I can explain it to Chocotay after all I’m not as hot headed as some people’

‘or as nice faced as Tom’ said Susan

‘I never considered myself ugly’ said the Doctor

‘neither did I but no one can compete with Tom’s standard’ said Carey

B’Elanna went pale ‘I’m leaving now thank you I’m fine. She ran straight through the doors and straight into Tom.

‘oh look’ said Carey ‘It’s the guy with the great face or so I’ve heard can’t see it myself how abut you oh yes that’s right you were the one that suggested it weren’t you B’Elanna’ said Carey he too got of the bed and walked through the doors stopping to whisper ‘this is pay back’

B’Elanna wished the floor would open up and swallow her ‘those weren’t exactly my words I was just saying you were nicer looking than Chocotay no, no I didn’t mean that either’ seeing Chocotay coming round the corner she was in his bad books already and she knew how sensitive he was about his tattoo it was a tradition apparently nothing to do with him getting drunk one night. All I have ever said about Tom is that he has dreamy eyes and a nice smile to Kes and of course it went straight to Kath after that quickly followed by Sue finding and most of the other women on the ship, the less said the better about Kes’s mouth.

‘oh poor Kes’ Said Tom

‘It is traditional’ screamed Chocotay

B’Elanna realised to her horror that she had done it yet again. She tried to look at Chocotay she didn’t need to she could feel his glare and as for Tom his lovely smile spread from ear to ear and as for his dreamy eyes they glinted with evil and she could hear him laughing if not to himself. B’Elanna decided to take the only option a lady has in a situation like she fainted clean away.
