Actually there isn't any new news...Sam Raimi was
asked about it at Comic Con and this was his response:
Another fan asked about the possibility of a “Hercules” or “Xena”
movie based on their TV series (which Raimi co-produced). He responded
that while it could happen, it was really up to his co-producer and Xena
actress Lucy Lawless (who are married).

Xena Movie News from 2007 NY Convention...
Rob said on the
weekend at the Xena Convention in New York that the studio doesn't want
to produce the movie at this time. He will be meeting with them again
but it's not looking hopeful. No cinema release and no DVD. Nada.

In a recent interview for
Blogzarro Lucy said the following about the prospects of a Xena
movie:
Are there plans for any more Xena
projects?
I don’t know. My husband would love to do one. He’s been making movies
for the last two years and he never really liked making movies, never
enjoyed the process too much. He loves television. When he was doing the
show it was him at his most creative. He is really the momentum behind
the show. You’ve just got to get some people to come on board to play
with you. I wouldn’t count it out just yet.
So, you wouldn’t mind playing Xena
again?
There has been enough time now where I wouldn’t mind revisiting that if
we could tell a really gnarly story.

Movie news from the 2007 Convention
The following is from the
Dogged con report:
Rob says they'll be doing q&a. He says the first question will
probably be, is there going to be a Xena feature? Says the people at
Universal say the feature has a future, but not
with Lucy and Renee and not for ten more years. "Her will is
being wilted away quickly because she... feels it's something she could
do again, and do justice to, because she knows how many people would
love to see. I don't know what's going to happen."
He says there is interest, but he can't make any promises, but he
said, "If I was a betting man, I'd say something's going to happen."
"It's a matter of what's a story, what would happen, what would they
do? One thing that keeps the people very interested is doing something
that would enable them to it "outside the box" - computer etc. I'm only
concered with, is there a good story to tell... two hours of great
entertainment."
Fangirl asked: "Would you have a large part of the story be based on
bringing her back, or would you just kind of....?"
Rob: "I keep wondering that same thing. That's a lot of
baggage. Certainly a lot of incarnations running around."

was on Leeza Gibbons' radio show Hollywood Confidential this weekend (31

There's a very interesting comment about the possibility of a Xena movie
- Lucy didn't want to reveal too much but she did say there's a 50/50
chance of a movie! Lucy's song Come to Me is also played at
the start of the interview. mp3 created by Roger.

NEWSFLASH FROM THE CON
- From Mesh
Katherina Fugate read Rob Tapert's email, and they
both ask that we all email Andrew Rona and Rogue Pictures (a part of
Focus, that's a part of Universal) to let him know that the fans
want a Xena movie. If they get enough emails, they will see that
there IS large group of people willing to pay for tickets.

There is a brief mention of the Xena Movie in an interview with Lucy for Crave Online.
"Lucy also mentioned that she’s probably a lot healthier now than when she was doing Xena. During that time she says she carried about 10 extra lbs of muscle on her. Since the ownership of the Xena character is
limbo (there may be more than one owner, including her) there has been no progress on a film version. Lucy is very interested in doing a film version of Xena and would be unhappy if anyone else played the roll."

You may have noticed the banner up the top? That was designed by Nance from The Xena Scrolls. If you have a site and would like to join in getting a message
across to Universal that we want a Xena movie...grab the banner and link it to
Universal Studios That's the Universal Studios feedback form. Xena Movie News is gathering pace with quite a few
news/blog sites picking up the story.
Added link to Lesbianation 24 August 2005 Lucy Lawless wants to take Xena to the big screen. The 10th Anniversary DVD set
of Xena: Warrior Princess just hit the shelves, packed full of fan favorite episodes and a variety of extra goodies. Even with all of the crazed popularity of the series still going strong, Xena can't seem to get
to the big screen - no matter how much its star, Lucy Lawless, might wish it to be so. Click here to read more
San Francisco Examiner - 25 August 2005 Where's Xena: The Movie?
Lucy Lawless, star of the cult favorite "Xena: Warrior Princess," says she's wanted to bring her character to the big screen for years. "I think a movie would be great, and I'd love to do it," the actress told
SciFiwire.com. The logistics of such a project are getting in the way of making Lawless' dream a reality — she says executives from the show disagree on who owns the rights, and until those questions get answered,
Xena will have to continue life in rerun Siberia.
