Xena bites the dust

In its six years on air, Xena:

Warrior Princess has died and been reincarnated twice, but a recovery from Studio USA's axing of the series last week is unlikely. The decision to halt production at the end of its current 22-episode season was taken due to slackening audiences in the US. In Australia, the Ten Network's rights to the show expired last month and no decision has been made to buy the final series.

Studio USA has indicated it may consider a spin-off, fuelled in part by the show's international popularity. In many countries, the show's heroines, Xena and Gabrielle, have become gay icons.
