Xenaverse News - Actor Update

Josephine Davison (Artemis and Cleopatra in Antony & Cleopatra) News...

From Auckland Actors Web Site: Jo will be appearing in a new movie that is currently in production called Outrageous Fortune. Produced by South Pacific Pictures for TV3, created by James Griffin and Rachel Lang, various directors. Outrageous Fortune is a comedy-drama that follows the fortunes of the Wests, a suburban crime-family who are (against all their natural instincts) trying to go straight. When patriarch Wolfgang West is sentenced to four years in jail, his wife Cheryl decides enough is enough; the family is cleaning up their act. Can the Wests live up to Cheryl's resolve and stay out of crime? It's not easy to be a saint when you have the DNA of a sinner – but then, if you can't break the rules, you can still bend them

Great news for Danielle Cormack

  • Kiwi film confirmed as country's biggest movie deal 23 May 2005
The New Zealand horror film, Perfect Creature, has been sold in what a Dunedin movie producer claims is this country's biggest movie deal. This follows recent speculation by the Empire website that 20th Century Fox had bought the film - "Forget The Lord of the Rings, forget King Kong; this is apparently the biggest sale ever made of a Kiwi film". With a budget of about $20 million, Perfect Creature is set in a "retro-futuristic world" where vampires and humans peacefully co-exist. Vampires act as guardians for a humanity beset by deadly diseases sweeping the planet, until one turns renegade and must be stopped by both species. The film, directed by New Zealander Glenn Standring, stars Dougray Scott, from Mission Impossible 2, Saffron Burrows (Troy) and Stuart Wilson (The Mask of Zorro), as well as New Zealand actors Scott Willis (Stickmen) and Danielle Cormack (The Price of Milk).

Lucy's bio by Lucy in GPB program

"LUCY LAWLESS (Dorothy), who is a native of New Zealand, was forged in the heat of battle as Xena: Warrior Princess. For a tiny sparrow of a woman this was no mean feat. It involved a lot of jumping off cliffs, getting punched in the head and the odd broken pelvis. On the bright side, she did have her eyebrows blown off whilst learning to breathe fire. Not content with having battled the demon baby on Xena, Lucy went off and had a few of her own, and has recently returned to American TV, starring in Locusts! last month on CBS. She started singing as a teenager but then stopped and didn't sing a note for about 10 years. Then she met Eric Vetro, who has coaxed her out of the singing closet. She played Rizzo on Broadway and thanks the 5th Avenue Theatre and David Armstrong for allowing her to share the stage with Faith, Stephen and all those gorgeous, talented men of the Seattle Men's Chorus. P.S. Thank-you Marissa Jaret Winokur for teaching me everything I know about life, and to Rob my biggest fan, I love you." | Thanks to KT for the transcript.

    Announcing Blue Feather Books!

Blue Feather Books, Ltd. is pleased and excited to announce that they are now open for business. Blue Feather is a 100% woman-owned publishing house that focuses on books written by women, for women. That doesn't mean that we won't publish high quality books that are of general interest (children's books, for example), just that most of our titles are woman-centered. We've got stories of lesbian romance and adventure; non-fiction speculative "herstory" books; quirky, off-beat books and everything in between!

Many of our current titles may look familiar to you, and there's a good reason for that. Blue Feather Books acquired its current catalog by purchasing the assets (including catalog of books in print) of Limitless D2D Publishing. With that purchase, we also acquired the rights to the D2D logo. So, for the first few months that we're in business, you'll see that logo on our book covers and title pages. We'll change those over the course of the next business year, and of course new titles will be released with the Blue Feather logo.

Please look at our website, www.bluefeatherbooks.com, to find out more about who and what we are, and what books we offer. You can also subscribe to our announcements-only Yahoo! group, Bluefeatherbooks, and get all the latest information about upcoming releases and special events delivered right to your mailbox.

From theage.com: In 1998, when Kathryn Morris was chosen to play the fierce fighter Najara in an episode of Xena: Warrior Princess, the petite blonde actor credited her casting to a "Joan of Arc" quality. "They wanted the character to be strong but have a gentle appearance," she explained. Exclusive Video Interview: We Chat with Lucy Lawless A.K.A Xena: The Warrior Princess

Lucy Lawless has more than a cult following, she has full fledge army of Warrior Princesses. A few months ago we covered an event where were able to see Lucy and Renee perform a burlesque show and all I have to say is WOW!

Lucy and her husband Robert G. Tapert were at the Saturn Awards last week to show support for partner and friend Sam Raimi who was there representing Spiderman 2, which won 5 awards.

So what has Lucy been up to since giving up her Warrior ways? Will we get to see Xena on the big screen? What movie is she looking forward in seeing this summer

2005 Seattle Convention Update - Xena / Strong Women of Film & TV

    From Cavalier Press:

    Hi Everyone -

Mary D's publisher, Cavalier Press, would like to invite you to a Meet and Greet at 10:00 am on Sunday the 15th, the last day of the con, at the Renaissance Hotel, 515 Madison Street, Seattle. Please check the hotel schedule for the room number. Along with the opportunity to meet one of the leading lights of the Xenaverse you will be able to purchase a copy of the new and revised edition of Mary's "In the Blood of the Greeks," the first book in the Eva and Zoe series. Coffee and sweet rolls will be available.

"In the Blood of the Greeks" tells of the fateful meeting of Eva and Zoe during the Nazi occupation of Greece in World War II. It is a wonderful story in a new edition which has been completely re-edited and which includes some new scenes. Mary and Cavalier Press are working on editing and releasing the entire series of Eva and Zoe stories, following these two unlikely partners through their emigration to Australia after the War and the creation of a new life together in a new country.

This is a great chance to meet the creator of one of the most popular sites on the Internet, with updated information on Lucy and Renee and everything Xena related - the Australian Xena Information Page (www.ausxip.com). Mary will be available to autograph a limited number of copies of her new book, so come early, enjoy her company, and add one more memorable event to your convention weekend.

LYBL Television (Life Your Best Life): Very Specials

Struggling stunt women, scandalized churches, and the rise and demise of a cult cable channel--not your usual made-for-TV fare.

Across the country in Los Angeles, the documentary Double Dare (PBS, May 31) follows Jeannie Epper and Zoe Bell, two women who are set on fire, tossed from moving vehicles, thrown off buildings, and dragged by wild horses--but that's nothing compared to the indignities they suffer off-camera. Fifty something Epper, once Lynda Carter's stunt double for Wonder Woman struggles with Hollywood's dim view of aging women. Bell is an LA neophyte having trouble breaking into the male-dominated industry.

The two become mentor and protégé in an immensely entertaining film that makes a damn good argument for adding a stunt category to the Oscars.

Many thanks to Twink for the transcript and the scan.

    Xenaverse News

Hudson Leick in upcoming SciFi Channel movie:

  • Joe Lando's official site | Mar 28, 2005 | Joe has been busy this Easter, filming a new movie for the Sci-fi Channel, called "Shock Wave." Not sure if it's one word or two at this point. Joe Plays Major Richard Tunney, a Navy Seal. There are a lot of familiar faces in the movie with him, Michael Dorn from "Enterprise," George Takei from "Star Trek," Hudson Leick, from "Xena," Bill Mumy from "Lost in Space," Alexandra Paul from "Baywatch," Lisa Lo Cicero, ex-"Sonia" from OLTL, and Paul Logan, ex-"Glen Reiber" on "Days of our Lives."

Joe told me the story involves a plane crash with robots aboard that were designed to be the first wave of soldiers in Iraq. This airplane goes down in the Aegean Islands. Through a series of events, the robots are activated and up and running. According to Joe, they will look like the robots in the "Incredibles." His job is to neutralize these robots in 24 hours or the island will be nuked so the "things" don't get off. | Thanks to LB for the info.

  • Koru (Spirals): The spiral is a Koru, represents the fern frond as it opens bringing new life and purity to the world. It also represents peace, tranquility and spirituality along with a strong sense of regrowth or new beginnings. The Koru is also often associated with nurturing so when interlocked with others is frequently used to represent the strength and purity of a loving relationship within a family.
