Lucy Dices With Death - Sunday Star Times 29 June 2003
 Lucy Lawless had her "most
civilised encounter with death" when she jumped off Auckland's Sky Tower yesterday in a bid to stop child abuse. Lawless, supporting Puawaitahi, the country's first multi-agency centre to investigate and treat
child abuse and neglect, did the sky jump with her daughter Daisy, 14, from one of the world's highest jumps. "It was fantastic. I wasn't going to do it because I've been sick with the flu but I got up there and
I just had to," Lawless said

Renee said about the movie "Movie is looking good, especially for filming on a DV. Very funny cast. Would you believe I play a lady who has food poisoning or is high on valium for
most of the film? I think I am having more fun than anyone else."

 A while back fans of the biggest
Swedish Xena mailinglist gathered on the web to discuss their discontent with the fact that there is no good forum for fans to spread and recieve information about the show in Sweden. We wanted to unite and create a space to
make ourselves heard, mainly to other Xenites, but also to non-Xenites. The idea was further developed by a group of three people (where I'm included), and took the form of a new Xena magazine - written completely by the
fans. The developing group of three act as editors for the mag, while all of the articles are written by fans. The articles discuss the show from different perspectives. Some are based on fact (about the show or about
related issues) and some are based on opinion. Valkyria is not afraid to let people speak their minds and are not afraid to criticize things. Valkyria will analyze, debate, inform and entertain.

Xena and Relic Hunter Crossing over?

Rumor has it that a televised Relic Hunter movie focussing around the Xena chakram is planned for next summer. According to Cult Times, Sydney Fox will uncover the weapon and two lost Xena
scrolls. In a recent interview, Lucy Lawless exclaimed- "Me and Tia always wanted to have the two series' merge, but then Xena ended". It is unclear yet whether Lucy Lawless herself will appear in the movie, which will
feature references to Xena episodes. Tia Carrere said: "It's very exciting. It's never been done before. We're taking an established series and weaving a narrative around it".
Rob Tapert- executive producer of Xena- has said that this will not hinder chances of a fully-fledged Xena movie in the future.

Here is an official AARBF 'Burn Relay 2003' cap. Autographed and dated by Renee O'Connor. Signed on the brim (in
black sharpie). White cap with red stitching. The front says 'Alisa Ann Ruch Burn Foundation'...the back says 'Burn Relay 2003'. Brand new, never worn. There were very few of these handed out to participants. The winner will
also receive a candid 4x6 photo from the event. All proceeds from this auction will go to the Alisa Ann Ruch Burn Foundation. The winning bidder will make out the payment to the Foundation and send it to me. I'll be

Entertainment:
Renee will begin filming an independent feature-length film
called "Diamonds and Guns" early this summer. It will be shot in Las Vegas and
Los Angeles. Directed by Chris Dollard, with a script by Dawn Higginbotham (from a story
by Dawn and Helena Beaven who are producing their first full-length film), it is a comedy
about two friends -- from America and New Zealand -- who go to Las Vegas to find true
love. It is being shot digitally with an eye toward film festivals and future
distribution.
Renee said, "I chose this script out of all the ones I've been looking at because it
was one of the funniest I'd read. It has an energy on the page which I hope translates to
the screen and the audience. It came to me by way of Aaron Morton who did the lighting on
"Dangerous Prey," the Xena episode I directed. Aaron did the lighting on a movie
called "Nemesis Game" and introduced me to the guys who wrote, produced and
directed that movie. They in turn introduced me to Helena. It all began with Xena."

The Discovery channel doco "Gladiatrix: Savage
Sister" unfortunately is not the Lucy version :-( My apologies but it's a pretty
decent doco if you want to catch it. Seems we got the British version instead of the
American version. I'm not sure which version is going to be shown on Kiwi TV but in the
event it's the Lucy version - you can see it on Friday 13 June at 00:30 on the Discovery
Channel in New Zealand.

appearing at our conventions, I thought it might be a good idea to videotape them -- just
to be able to look back and reminisce. So, I went out and bought a camcorder. Lucy and
Renee thought it was a good idea, too. And they got copies of all their conventions. When
we asked if we could release that footage, they agreed. It's time to share with all the
fans that weren't able to attend at the time and the newcomers who missed out. The camera
is a little shaky at times and the color isn't spot on, but the excitement is all there.

Catskill’s Sheriff Kate McGuinness has exiled love from her life forever, but
“forever” ends late one summer when Dr. Carling Reed arrives to do forensics
pathology work on two unsolved crimes, and defiantly walks through Kate’s
heart’s door, a heart with walls, memories and secrets. Together, they’re an
unlikely team, but their meeting was fate. Fate when an older woman’s feelings for a
younger one are the results achieved by the process of discovering one’s sole desire.
Kate goes through some light inner conflicts involving her personal self-discovery issues,
including age difference, a previous love, and Carling’s job challenges. The happy
ending story has a few doses of humor, some of the younger woman’s dreamscapes and a
couple of mysteries. It is a story where the two women’s union becomes ecstasy! Or
does it?

Thanks to all the fans that came out on Saturday to support myself and the Alisa Ann Ruch
Burn Foundation. And thanks also to the people who have been sending money to support
their charity work. The guys at the Burn Foundation were happily overwhelmed with the
response. I had such a blast being a firewoman leading a pack of 25 fire trucks for the
day throughout Los Angeles. It's a little bit different sitting with the real heroes. A
humbling experience. I'm hoping to do more work for them in the future.

will be doing workwise:
Renee is currently working on an independent
film. She says it's a 'dark comedy'. She isn't going to do Shakespeare this summer because
of this film but that doesn't mean she isn't going to do it next summer (too early to
tell). She plans on directing a film based on a book. She didn't say what the book was
about but that it's going to happen down the road. I gather that meant next year since
she's really busy this year. She's still going to Europe for the Strong Women of Sci-Fi

the XENA/HERCULES company has begun shipping the XENA Season Two DVD sets. This set is by
the original people who were releasing the DVDs www.xenadvd.com
- not Anchor Bay (I assume Anchor Bay will probably release season two at some point
also). It does include an extra disc with director and actor bios, trivia, something
called the "Xena Chronicles" and a photo gallery.

ROC News / Firefighters Burn Relay 2003
 There's a pretty cool story behind this image. Wendy Sparks - the wonderful
photographer who has taken some wonderful photos for Creation (you can see some of her pictures on ausxip) was at this relay. She asked Renee to pose on the bike. Renee
being generous, sweet and just a downright nice person agreed and Wendy went to work in
getting all sorts of clearances for Renee to sit on the bike. The end result is pretty
cool - ROC fans get to see her on a bike! I say that's a pretty nifty thing for Renee to
do and for Wendy in organising it. Onya Wendy and Renee!
Also another special thing from Wendy - she's
auctioning off a hat, autographed by Renee (with the date on the brim) on ebay and all the
money will be going to the Alisa Ann Ruch Burn

On Saturday, 31 May, Renee participated in the Southern California Firefighters Burn Relay to
help raise funds for the Alisa Ann Ruch Burn Foundation. Fifthd was there with a few
Xenites and he has some excellent pics of Renee. Fifthd will be writing a report and
