A few years ago, Wishes (Judith K. Parker) read The World's Shortest Stories, edited by Steve Moss (Running Press, Philadelphia, 1998), and challenged fans to write 55-word Xena: Warrior Princess fiction (hosted by The Royal Academy of Bards at academyofbards.org), which inspired the following. -- IQ

 

SILVER LINING

(June 2007)

 

"Not fair." Xena scowled at the gray streaking her hair. "Can’t even see yours. Folks’ll start thinkin’ you’re my kid."

Gabrielle eased down into her soulmate’s lap and began swaying from side to side.

"Um, what’re you doing?"

"Testing."

"What? These old bones?"

"Mmm. Molded, cushioned just right. Wanna test why my cradle still rocks like new?"
